Our Heritage

Favoured by medical clinicians for many decades

Our Historical Roots

In the 19th century, the renowned Birmingham architect Thomas Henry Mansell (1833-1911) and his wife, Selina Mottram Mansell – the daughter of Seymour Mottram of Lapal House, Halesowen – raised their family at 38 Harborne Road. Their sons, Edward and Thomas, established an architectural practice in Temple Row, Birmingham, while their daughter, Anna Maria Mansell, married Dr. Samuel Philip Alexander. In the Last Century

During the 1950s, the esteemed ophthalmologist and pioneering eye surgeon Michael Roper-Hall (1923-2024) occupied the premises. Serving as Consultant at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital from 1957 to 1988, he became a world leader and innovator in microsurgery.

Michael Roper-Hall, an Honorary Fellow of the Ophthalmology College, reached the remarkable age of 100, passing away in May 2024. He was affectionately regarded as “a legend of British, particularly Birmingham, Ophthalmology” and was honoured with the establishment of the Roper-Hall Eye Foundation, a Birmingham-based eye health charity.

Today

In June 2014, the historical legacy and future direction of 38 Harborne Road were secured when psychotherapist Linda McBride, Managing Director, formed Consulting Rooms 38 Limited, with a vision to develop No. 38 into a facility on the level of a ‘Harley Street’ for medical and health professionals.

The prestige that 38 enjoys today is rooted in our core values and ethical practices. The foundation of their approach places emphasis on organic development over profit-driven. They prioritise collaborative, positive working relationships, ensuring that all visitors experience a warm and welcoming environment.
